The Gold @ Borderline – 6 / 5 / 17

In Live Reviews by Jess Lumb

An underground hideaway, London’s Borderline tonight is taken over by Essex six piece The Gold. Tonight’s headliners, notably tipped for greatness by BBC Introducing, provide a high energy set exploding with euphoric songs of idealistic love. Their catchy hooks and perfect pop cadences are the potion for upbeat indie pop, and the crowd’s response suggests the excitement they exude is felt amongst many.

The band’s new track ‘In Your Love’ is joyous and a youthful celebration of romance that infects the crowd with energy. ‘Dreaming’ is a more moody offering; a cinematic slow burner, it builds with an intense drama that showcases each musician to their full potential. As foot tapping fills the room, the band play their last track ‘Scream’, which is euphorically upbeat and impressively their only single so far. Reminiscent of a hyped up, early The 1975-esque sound, it firms the band as ones to watch in indie pop.
